Did we finally kill the Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM)?

This is the question that’s been on everyone’s mind since the EWM treatment in June. For official results, we have been waiting for a 45-day post-treatment survey to be conducted.  That survey was conducted on August 25th.  The official results… of the 11.7 acres of EWM we had before the treatment, only .2 acres remain, and all is in water greater than 12 feet.  Officially, the treatment was 98% effective.

We will receive GPS coordinates of the remaining EWM sometime the week of August 28th and will inspect the remaining milfoil to determine what next steps are available to us.

We are looking for volunteer scuba divers to dive before or during the Labor Day weekend. We’d like to determine more accurately how much milfoil is left. If you’d like to help please contact Fred Koch, 815-861-6473.

While we will NEVER completely get rid of the EWM in our lake, we have certainly taken a very large bite out of it.  Unfortunately, EWM will always be something we need to address.

Now that we are in a much better situation than before it is extremely important to keep additional EWM from coming into our lake. For that reason, PLEASE consider donating just an hour of your time to the Clean Boats, Clean Water project.  It is simple and a fun way to meet neighbors and other families that come to our lake for boating and fishing fun.
