Blood Drive 2024 collected 24 units of blood and saved 72 lives.

10 Years and still going…what an amazing legacy the Whittow clan started in honor of several Pine Lake Families – the Pine Lake Blood Drive.

Another fun filled, lively, community building day was spent at the fabulous home of Bill and Jan Powell collecting blood the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Many people who attend are unable to personally give blood but provide treats, drinks, conversation, behind the scenes preparation and clean up and beautiful handcrafted wooden utensils for all to take home. (THANK YOU BILL POWELL!) A truly special day is enhanced by cheering for all who attempt to give blood. The annual “fastest blood donation” contest was once again won by Mae Lauritzen, the reigning QUEEN. Her niece, Nancy Jensen (2nd place), tried hard to dethrone her being only 8 seconds behind. Julie Verhaalen reclaimed a spot on the podium taking out disappointed contenders.

Three lakes were represented at the blood drive. Long Lake put out an impressive social media drive that the blood center would like to emulate-–Thank you Wendy! Tom Duerr, our Community Blood Center support person, would like to personally give blood at our drive next year. As he wrote to me after the drive, “I cannot thank you and your team enough for allowing me to come and experience the masterpiece that is the Pine Lake Community blood drive.”

    THANK YOU PINE LAKE!

Update from Pine Lake Camp

Greetings from the community, campers, and staff of Pine Lake Camp as well as Robyn and Ben and their family! We at Pine Lake Camp are so thankful for the strong relationships we’ve been able to build with our neighbors around the lake.

We’re so thankful to see collaboration grow over the past few years, and want to reinforce some helpful patterns:

Folks are welcome to walk through the camp along N. Pine Lake Rd. and around the loop that goes through the camp,  around the camp Chapel and back out. Camp staff may still ask where you’re heading, if it’s unclear, but you’re welcome to use that walking path! While our programs are in operation, we are not able to have guests outside of that path.

We are also not able to have any unleashed pets, or small motorized or off-road vehicles on that loop or the Camp driveway, because only volunteer-use equipment is accounted for in our insurance.

We would also like to highlight the camp driveway specifically. As part of a deliberative agreement with neighbors, seven or eight years ago, the camp constructed and paid for a private driveway. The driveway was constructed for the use of the Camp participants, with the intention of limiting Camp traffic and improving conditions on N. Pine Lake Rd. Use of the camp driveway by Lake residents has increased significantly over the past 1 to 2 years. If you are someone who uses the Camp driveway to access your residence, please consider making a contribution to help keep the Camp community strong and the property  and driveway maintained. We’re looking forward to seeing more friendly faces over the next year, and hoping to heat up our new Woodfire pizza oven for a public event soon. Thank you for your partnership! – Ben and Robyn Koehler (Kayler)
